Tracey
Black

Originally from Wellington, Tracey Black now resides in Auckland. For the past twenty years Black has been highly involved with the education system, graduating with a Diploma in Teaching in December 1989. Her major focus has been within the Arts Curriculum and language based programmes. She is currently involved in the development of Maori/English language based programmes within the bi-cultural unit at Newton Central School and recently completed a teaching contract as a tutor within the Certificate for Art and Design Programme at AUT.

Black’s practice reflects upon the incidental and the beauty of things imperfect; leaving her etching plates unprotected, she encourages random scrapes and scratches to be recorded in her prints. Black's area of expertise is in etching, aquatint and mezzotint. She was a finalist in the Wallace Art Awards in 2008 and received a merit award from the Waikato Painting and Printmaking Society in 2009. Black is featured in Warwick Brown’s new publication ‘Seen this Century’ (100 Contemporary New Zealand Artists – a collector’s guide). She continues to work in drawing and print media and exhibited her most recent body of work at Seed Gallery in March 2009.
