Tracey Black, Links & Layers
Working in aquatint, mezzotint and painting media - all modes of working which require a certain physical commitment - Tracey Black documents ritualistic mark making, domestic activity and the passing of time within her works. Process and chance are of equal importance in Black’s art making; many works are based on the accumulation or accretion of marks made by daily activity. The carved and worn map-like shapes in her Links & Layers series suggest habitual daily meanderings through an urban environment.
Originally from Wellington, until recently Black was a resident of Auckland where she worked as a university tutor and school teacher. She relocated to Melbourne, Australia in 2013 where she now lives with her husband and two children.
