Elizabeth Rose Crosby, Ahead of the Curve

Having completed a BFA at Whitecliffe in 2016 and currently based in Hamilton, Elizabeth Rose Crosby finds inspiration in her green environment and the nostalgia she feels for her farming childhood. Crosby aims to capture the nuanced colour and movement she sees daily in nature; land and skyscapes, flowers, birds and other creatures all inform her paintings.

Crosby works with experimental combinations of watercolour paint and ink. A variety of painting media repel and attract one another in petri dish-like micro climates of texture, grain and form. Details go beyond the marks made by the artist’s hand and into the granular characteristics of the media themselves, inviting the viewer into a closer meditation on Crosby’s seductive surfaces.
