Gillian Buckley works almost exclusively in graphite and charcoal to render finely detailed portraits of people and animals. These are often fragmentary or unconventionally cropped and Buckley’s Tea + Silver pieces for the Ahead of the Curve exhibition are no exception. Additionally, these works are veiled in a wash of silver powder, giving them a nostalgic, dream-like haziness.

Largely self-taught, Gillian Buckley has been exhibiting since 2012 and has work held in private collections throughout NZ and internationally. She is currently based in Northland.
