Peter Rive is a Tokyo-based New Zealand artist who draws upon his experiences of East and West to make bold works that incorporate traditional and industrial materials.

Rive approaches making art in a way that challenges the traditional order and process of what a painting is. Surfaces, marks and textures of paint are applied in a way that explores the moment of it being made and challenges boundaries of scale, material and idea - of how a painting is created, seen and experienced. 

He has regularly exhibited work in Japan, NZ and abroad, and his latest projects have extended to include collaborations with boutique fashion labels, product design and stage productions. He has been selected as a finalist in multiple national art awards and has work in private art collections around the world. Rive currently lives and works from his studio in western Tokyo with his wife and two sons.
