Rebecca Thomson, Little Pieces
Rebecca Thomson’s work is a quiet and poignant homage to domestic handcrafts. She works in collagraph and drawing, using collected pieces of fabric, paper and items of domestic ephemera as source materials. She faithfully represents flaws and stains, depth and dimension with slight shifts of tone and surface texture, employing a range of drawing, print and collage techniques to execute highly detailed imagery, often with a convincing trompe l’oeil effect. Thomson’s recent works consider rates of change, protection and exposure, and deterioration over time. Other works refer to gift wrap, tissue, confetti and other paper objects used in celebration which are destroyed through use.
Thomson works from her home studio in Geraldine, South Canterbury. She has a degree in printmaking and has exhibited regularly in NZ and Europe while working as a secondary art teacher. She has been selected for inclusion in the Lessedra world print annual in Bulgaria five times.
